Sunday dawns grey and eerie in Hong Kong with the threat of showers but the tracks have been posted as good and get ready for a Joao Moreira whitewash.
Moreira has dominated since his arrival two and a half years ago, winning races at one in four rides – a rate never before seen in the history of Hong Kong racing – but even so, he won’t have fronted at the races with many better days ahead of him than he has this afternoon. On paper anyway.
He is $1.30 overnight to win the Jockey Challenge and that looks way over the odds, with eight of his 10 rides the overnight favourite – including the two really good things on the day Love Shock and Unique Joyous – and the other two will be in the first three in betting.
Moreira has already ridden six winners on a day once before, and he could do it again today.
Naturally, we won’t be sailing into the short ones all day with the public following of the Magic Man, but we do think that punters who get in early can get the best value out of Moreira’s day with Respect in the opening race.
He is $4.40 on the Hong Kong tote this morning, the first price up with the corporates is $4.20 with Bet365 and that is a great bet.
We think he will start much shorter than that, and win.
